What is a short shifter? Thu, 01 April 2004 02:11 Go to next message
Hey,
I dunno if this is a stupid question or not, but can anyone tell me what a short shifter kit is/does?
Is it just cutting the shift stick down for sake of comfort/feeling, or is there a more complex reason?
cheers.

It shortens the shifter "Throw" by changing the leaver arm of the gear shift. used for quicker(?) gear changes. I have it for comfort. It can be a little tricky to pick 3rd gear comming to a corner.

Hi Whitchy,

a true short shift kit should both decrease the gear stick that you actually grab hold of and also lengthen the bit below the pivot point thus decreasing the amount of travel needed to move the linkage for a gear change. I have posted a link before to a short shift mod you might like to try.
