not your fault, it sometimes just happens
thats were they should take up

Shouldn't when the clutch pedal is fully released the clevis and piston will be at start of stroke..i.e resting on the end stop as when master cylinder is off vehicle with no force on it.
|
yes it should, cause he clutch fork/TOB shouldnt be touching the pressure plate

How much warranty do these parts usually have?
So where the clutch pedal releases to is dictated by the piston at full retraction. I made sure I had a little freeplay there.
Thanks for your post MRDOHC..makes me feel a bit better

My guess is that it was sitting around for a fair while before you bought it

'Top Performance' and dancing elephants on the packet? Sounds like a hugely reputable and professional operation to me!

That last post is killing me squall!! You're right the elephants don't exactly help build confidence in the product. Maybe I should ask for my money back and go elsewhere, they probably won't do that though..I may have to dance with the elephants again! Hopefully it will work out better this time around.

Have you still got the original clutch master? If not, get your money back from the non-genuine master cyclinder and go and get a genuine reco kit from toyota - it shouldn't cost you more than $40.

The mc may have corroded and may be pitted. Did you inspect it for corrosion and / or hone it before re assembly?

Mine went on me mid last year as well, i replaced it with a PBR one, cost me $110 for the celica.Worth it coz its not leakin everywhere anymore and it actually has a better feel than most others that ive driven (probs makes no differnce tho) but at least they're a respected and known brand. And those reco kits cost like 150 from toyota.

$150 for an overhaul kit? I paid that for a complete master cylinder from toyota. The last clutch overhaul kit cost me $39, and that was the genuine article.

these things are assembled in a factory by morons, not an operating room, and the factory type stuff you'll find in any & every THING that you purchase would make you puke.
you've got to take it apart if you want to know that it is right.
the initial oil & filter change on new cars isn't becuse the oil is "worn out" or from cylinder & crankshaft stuff. it's to get rid of the factory stuff that should have been in the dustbin instead of the engine.

Put the replacement one in last night . They do seem pretty crap quality , hopefully this one will last but I haven't got that much faith. When I took it back the guy was trying to tell me that I used old brake fluid as there was some residual fluid there that looked dark and said it was gritty. He rang me back later as they decided to pull it apart and have a look, apparently when they assemble them they put some assembly fluid in there so that it doesn't corrode or seals get hard as they may sit on shelf for a while. Most of the others he had seen have clear assembly fluid.
Nobodies had probs with the Castrol response dot 4 have they..that's what I've been using.
I think I'll pull apart the old toyota MS (not sure if original or not..has made in Italy on cap..so maybe not)
