Do Thermal Cutouts actually exist??? you think with all the technology in cars they could make a little thing to shut off an engine and turn on a little smegging light to say "YOUR CAR IS HOT MORON".

RAAAA

A Freak thing like what happening today where a little cut in my bottom radiator hose has completely cooked my engine Mad Mad Mad

i've thrown so much money keeping this car road worth with perfect parts.

Am i wrong or is it normal for a car to run like 3/4 or higher on the temp gague??? WHY NOT BUILD A BLOODY SENSOR TO TURN THE CAR OFF! @#)($@)

If I was to make one of these where would be the best place to hook the relay up to? Coil? EFI fuse?? (car is a 1985 CSi 2.4l Corona)

thats a shame man exact same thing hap[pened to me..$900 later my car still isnt running..u most likely have a blown head gasket or head..and most likley a few hoses..but i chose to do full rebuild..one of those things would have come in handy 3 weeks ago Rolling Eyes ..did u do anything to ur car with in a week of it happening..i shortened my radiator hose apparently that did it from air getting caught in the head and turning to gas etc etc
hope u get it all sorted

The thing is that the temp gauge will not give you an accurate reading if there is no water in the engine. I guess if you wanted to fit a fool proof temp guage you would have to look at putting a sensor on the head somewhere Rolling Eyes Or another way would be to put a water pressure sensor somewhere Confused

get a low coolant sensor installed somewhere. Ford fairmonts 91+ have them. Will bring up a warning if the level gets low. something to add to the list

2 weeks a go it got a full service, 1 week ago it got a new timing chain kit put on it, radiator full flush & some hoses replaced. I'm just hoping like hell that hose was one of them so they'll do it under warranty.

2 months ago it got the head fixed and head gasket replaced. They 'fixed' it even tho they were unsure if it was warped.

The car gods hate me.

Mercedes have these since 1980's i believe, I know our 90 model E has one, i stupidly left the coolant reservoir cap off and it shut the motor off at a certain temp...

let's just say my mum was not pleased when the car stopped running!
