RA23 throttle linkage Mon, 19 August 2002 10:50 Go to next message
my friend got himself a celica and its got the i'm guessing original throttle linkage where its metal mounts and linkages and so forth and his gas pedal has heaps of free play and just doesn't feel right anyone got ideas on how to fix this and make it nice and tight again? where are the adjustments?

i got no idea as my car uses a cable link up which is much more simple. Rolling

its probably worn over years of use, so, two suggestions :

1. go to the wreckers - find one with less play (prolly cheaper)
2. take it apart and have all the connections *bronzed* then re-ground back to original size - thus eliminating the freeplay

there *sorta* is. there are sorta shafts with a thread on them which can be rotated BUT they have plastic connectors on the end of them which after 25-30 years will be brittle, so, when you go to remove them be very careful as they will prolly break..

You could do some kind of high-quality bending job...the long rod that goes across the back of the engine bay could take up a bit of slack with a stregically placed kink.

The best thing would be to bite the bullit and go to a cable setup. KE70 throttle cables are nice and long. I unscrewed one of the ball-joint connectors from the linkage setup and then melted the led slug off the end of the cable (that goes into the firewall) and then heat the lead up and feed it into the ball-joint connector thingy (through the hole where it screwed onto the rods). Then you can just snap it onto the accelerator pedal like the linkages used to!
