drift Kart??

i was wondering if anyone has done a DRIFT KART? im planning on doing one in the next 2-3 years using:
1. 80cc or 125cc 2 stroke engine
2.go-kart frame
3. adapt the 6 speed gearbox and clutch to the frame
hopfully the 80cc engine will have enough power to get the rear wheels spinning after a quick drop of the clutch and a bit of revs.
so what does everyone think?

There was a video floating around some time last year of a Kart running a GSXR engine... Absolutely INSANE power to weight in that thing!! The guy would come onto a straight all crossed up, and stay that way for about 3/4 of it!

the thing is boris i want to be the first person to fully link up the 'butterfly farm' go kart track out windsor. and im only 15 this year so it will give me a chance to experience drifting and perfect me style so the change to a car will be easier than from paddock basher fish tailing

the clip is called GIXXXERKART
it has a 130hp 1300cc bike engine with a 6sp box which runs off a tiny gearstick with about 1 inch of shift either way, its mad

Karts have lots of grip and a very short wheelbase. Plenty of power will make wheelspin easy enough, but I think actual drift is going to be very hard to do. Grippy chassis + twitchy handling = bad for drift.
Having said that, I used to race karts on a dirt track using second-hand slick tyres and a slightly modified 6hp Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke. The only way to get around the track was to drift WRC-style around every corner; if you tried to drive "normally" around a corner you'd just understeer straight off the track! This is a whole stack of fun even with the low-powered engine, but a kart on a sealed surface is a completely different kettle of fish.
I'd be able to post pics/vids of my kart-rallying action if my web site wasn't STILL down.

do you think it would make it easier to drift if i added say 200mm to the length of the kart? the reason im using an 80cc engine is that i can get one for $200 and the two stroke engine has a snappy power band so it will be like driving a car with a big turbo i hope.
thanks fot the feedback

Yes a longer wheelbase will probably help.
Or just race on dirt.

i've been outdoor go-karting in the wet...
it slides, and you sorta drift.
you don't need much engine power either.
so organise it for a rainy day. it'll be good!

you've got the stiff suspension that drifto's use, but you also need massive amounts of power so you can control how/when the car/kart breaks traction and wheel-spins, oh yeah, the slicks that karts normally use have too much grip so you'll have to re-think your tyre type - them baby racing slicks stick....
maybe one of them old Suziki 3-cyl 2-strokes might be the go? massive amount of power, and running it thru the power band would probably break any kind of traction
speaking of looney kart activity - has anybody seen the guy drag-racing his kart at Willlowbank (Qld)? when i saw it, it was fuken hillarious, but fast! - tho is must be a truly frightening ride as the steering is so, so twitchy - and at high speed, a tiny twich results in kissing the wall with great gusto and energy...
