Just use degreaser... Spray it in, add a little water, mix around, walk away for 30mins, come back, spray it out with a hose. Repeat as necessary.
If the intercooler is a aluminium core design, use a degreaser that doesn’t damage aluminium.

Or you could just take it to a raidiator shop and get them to flush it! Should'nt cost anymore than $20 if its not fitted(which it wont be)

the best way to clean a intercooler is with general purpose paint thinners. pour it in swish it around pour it out, do it a few times, or till it comes out clean, it will then evaporate, if you use water, it will take a while to get it dry.

Just sort of off the track, I was at a friends place a few weeks ago, when a guy that bought a GTR that my friend had imported, brought the car backto get fixed. A fairly reputable workshop (no names!) serviced the car and cleaned the intercooler with keroscene. They put the Intercooler back on almost straight away, and tried to tune it on the dyno. Needless to say what happened

um, if you use water, i'd be using compressed air to blow it out afterwards THEN letting it sit for a LONG time to let anything in the fins dry up!
i'd be more inclined to clean it with thinners/carby cleaner - evaporates well!

Thinners is good - however, as with anything flammable, be careful...
If there was a little bit of water (not litres!) left in the core, would it REALLY matter? It'd soon disappear when you fired it up...

If you really want to make sure there isn't any water left in the intercooler, hook it up, but leave off the pipe leading back to the throttle body. Either let the engine run for a little bit or go for a small drive. This should make the turbo force most of what is in the intercooler out or make it evaporate. Hope I don't get flamed, but this sorta made sense to me.

Or you could always leave it out in the lovely warm sun for a few hours, while the insects and other wildlife find a new home within it
That is, of course, if you don't live in a place like Melbourne, where we don't actually HAVE lovely warm sun to leave things out in

Whatever you do, don't drive your turbo car with the inlet piping disconnected! This will cause your turbo(s) to overspeed... then it's bye-bye bearings.

Another thing is to wash it out with hot water, it cleans much better and pretty much dries itself out after a few minutes. But as I said earlier, does it really matter if theres a tiny bit of water in there? It'll soon disappear whenever you start driving anyway, and so long as there isn't litres of it, won't do any harm (water injection!)
