Changing T50 Shifter Positions

Can the rear extension housing from a TA22 T50 with forward shifter position be swapped onto an AE86 T50?
I would like to be able to have the shifter sit a little further forward than the stock AE86 location, is this way possible?
I have already done it to a K series box in this exact matter using an AE71 K50 with KE55 5 speed extension housing.
If not is there any other way that this may be achieved??

i'd also like to know... but for T18 and TA22..
surely it'd be the same as for the K boxes, ie change over the ext housing AND the shift rods at the same time...
i know i've done it with ALL the K40 boxes from KE10 to KE70..
has to be that easy... doesn't it?

I think from memory the extension housings and therefore output shafts are different lengths between the 2 different T50s.
But don't take my word for it....

Cant hurt to try I suppose.

For what it is worth, this does work for W40 and W50 gearboxes and W57 and W58 gearboxes, but I can't help you with the T50.
Sorry.
Good luck with it.

This is a little late but still useful I hope.
I've just swapped a TA22 T50 extension housing onto an AE86 T50. The complications are that the '86 box runs a remote shift and so the selector rods are of different lengths. The actuator ends of the 86 rods are inverted (the slots are towards the bottom of the box). However, the differences in the rods are all external to the main case. All of the indents and dowel locations are the same. When I swapped the shafts I retained the selector forks that were in the box.
I should put a caveat on this post in that the box has not been run in a car yet (and won't be for some time to come) and so there might be some minor issue that causes the whole lot to turn inside out. It doesn't appear that way yet as it all went together very smoothly. I'll report any disasters though.
Cheers,
Dan

Wow thanks Dan,
I never thought it would take this long to get a proper reply.
Like your work. Would be eager to know how it runs when its installed.
Now anyone got a TA22 extension housing out there?

Hi,
I've got one. I did the same conversion in reverse. Let me know if you are interested.

Michael

Now they all start coming out of the woodwork, haha.
Where were you when I was looking for one ages ago.
No matter as I have another project now that I can test this on.
