Just wanting some input on how to move a caravan across my yard. Any suggestions welcome...

The 'van in question is your average 14ft van, weight unknown but at a guess i'd say maybe 4-500kg's??? The towing hitch has rusted away and is of no use but there are some chains on the underside of the caravan which could be used. One tyre is flat, the other is ok...

So far i've come up with a couple of ideas;

*Get a couple of mates around and have a piss-up, hopefully we can push it across the yard.

*Hire a lever block (see attached). Has anyone used one of these & if so how do they anchor to the ground?

*Use the chains attached to make a temprary tow hitch & use a ute/4wd to tow it across the yard.

All of the above ideas have their pros & cons, most notably a lack of space to move around the yard. At the moment i'm favouring the lever block idea...

I'm wanting to move the van from it's current location (as pictured) to behind the BBQ, maybe 15-20 metres.

Please excuse my crappy drawing, not to scale Rolling Eyes

Just get ya mates around to push it. We have a 21ft caravan here which can be pushed around fairly easily.

Are you able to attach a jockey wheel? If so you can hire/borrow one of those ratchet wheels, which is just the ticket for moving caravans/trailers around without the use of a tow vehicle. They work really well, even on large caravans.

Hand operated winch could be the go.. (same principle as the lever block I guess?) We've pulled the rally car out of a few ditches with one of these, so I'm sure it could move the caravan if the ground is level enough.

Not really any way to anchor it to the ground I don't think, but if there's a tree or two handy then consider it anchored Smile

If you really want to make it easy, get some air into both of those tyres first. Cool

Cheers, thanks for the quick replies Very Happy

Thought about a jockey wheel but it'd be hard to attach, the 'V' frame (or whatever it's called) has almost rusted through & I doubt it'd support the weight.

While the top of the van is in near perfect condition the subframe has seen better days so i'm not sure how much tension it would support on the axle & such...

Don't have a tree handy but a huge brick BBQ should do the trick Wink
