Truck Turbo onto car engine??

Hey,
I would really like to know if it is possible to get a truck turbo, and manipulate it to bolt onto a car engine inplace of a normal turbo, I have told my mates that one day I will do this, and I plan to follow through with it, I would just like to know if I am wasting my time or if it is possible? I just think it would sound so sik, all you would be able to hear would be the turbo spinning, and it would even drown out the engine,(I hope)
And yeah, anyone that can advise me on this thanks very much!
Cheers

ummm ... well you can try, but not worth the effort- the turbines/housing are designed to suit the motor ... trucks engines have very different exhaust/intake gas flow & requirements than petrol - expect it to not work well and eventually kill your motor.
also turbo sound will not drown out engein unless bearings fail and the compressor tries to machine the inside of the housing.
... i thinks you'll be wasting time & money - if you have to, just lie to your mates..

dammit!
But truck turbos are loud as hell, or is that something else making the insanely loud whistle?
What about changing to a diesel motor and changing the exhaust/intake stuff?
Ah well, I'll just wait till I win the lottery and then give it a shot ay!
Cheers!

it's also worth noting the size of a truck engine and truck turbo
if you want that uber whistling noise, there are a few options
chris chow's 8 sec car runs a pair of giant turbos with no ait filter on them, and they whistle nicely.
I've got a vid of a s6 rx7 running 2 bar of boost, and it whistles nicely.
even the 2j has a nice bit of turbo whistle going.
it depends on the turbo and the boost.

thats the ticket.. just put an entire truck motor in your car.. you'll have a hell-of-lot more torque than any other car around
might be a little slower, and a bit harder to see out the windscreen too...
heck, why not just put in a 1UZ with twin T88's... when they eventually spool, i'm sure they would howl!!

we used truck turbo on our race motor or should i say dyno mule motor now. one of them does a 13.5litre cummins engine and we used two on a v6 till they bought the rpm down to 7800rpm in dyno comps. they would come on boost at 7500rpm and make big power at 10500rpm. they would be totally usless on a street car, better off with a custom turbo for your motor and one that works over a wider powerband. big turbos are only good for max horsepower not driveability.

I think that kingmick has summed up the obvious downside to truck turbos on cars, however if its just the sound u are chasing, trucks run a fair wack of boost and that is why they are so loud. This would be more boost than you would want to put through a car engine. The way to get air rushing sound out of your turbo is to run decent boost and, also you would need a larger than stock turbo, something in the garrett gt30 ranges seems to do the trick

simple reason they are so loud big turbo - big motor = lots of exhaust gases prolly 10 times as much as ur motor! simple as that

Is that the N/a BOV? or the 500rpm mid range N/a spool up?

i should have added! the reason the trucks are loud is the commpression they run. the exhast brake or jacob brake holds the valves shut so there is huge pressure hence the noise. turbos make engine quieter superchargers make them louder!
hope that helped. want loud fit supercharger as the exhaust from a turbo engine hits the turbine blades it actually make them alot queiter.

Yah... But I think that, er, various folk that have posted on this thread want the fulsik TURBO noises, not the engine noise It's just me that thinks exhaust brakes are cool, yeah?
