fwd gearbox problem - ae82 Wed, 07 April 2004 05:02 Go to next message
I have just installed a new 100kw 4age into my ae82. Whilst the engine was out i chnaged the clutch over as it was fairly worn.
We started the car today and it runs wicked, but when i went to take for test drive i couldnt get it into gear Crying or Very Sad
Is there some sort of adjustment that can be done?
Does anyone know what this could possibly be??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris Very Happy

did you undo the pipe going to the slave ?if so you need to bleed it,only thing it can be unless you changed to diffrent clutch or flywheel.

Bleed for sure. Get someone to look under bonnet will you push clutch to see if slave is pushing clutch lever. If air in line you will see it only move a fraction until you get rid of the air it starts moving more and more.

Clutch will also take up at different spot now so you may need to adjust master cylinder piston length near the pedal box. This is a must anyway whenever you replace clutch. Just undo locknut and rotate shaft from master cylinder to clutch pedal.
New clutch will be thicker so should contact earlier so you should probably have to lengthen the distance..can't think at moment but sure you can figure it out.

Hope it's something that simple Smile

hey im doing that exact conversion now, the only that im hung up on is which way does the driven plate, clutch plate the bit with the spings in it and the grooves for the splines of the gear box. which way does it go up?? normally they say on it but this one doesnt one side is like flat and the other side is raised where the springs are in the middle ie

v- ignore those dots, used for spacing

okay that looks shit but do you get the idea? should that raised bit sit in side the flywheel facing the engine or should it be facing the gear box??

Cheers for any help

what release bearing are you using? what flywheel?

i had this problem with my ae82 before. the clutch release bearing used was the wrong one.

There is 2 types for The 4AGE AE82-92/3
it depends on what the flywheel/clutch size is

A bleeding could also help
