i've got a T25 turbo going on my engine in a week or two, and the thing is that i don't know what condition the turbo is in, i'll have to wait till i start the engine up to see if the oil seals are broken, so i want to know what amount of shaft play the turbo should have if any, the compressor wheel wiggles a tiny bit but not much (1/2 mil at most, is this normal or should there be no shaft play at all, i've been told off a mate that this is normal? any comments would be great.
cheers

turbos will always have a minescule amount of shaft play.
0.5mm - I'm guessing the turbo is used? that's acceptable, my 1jz front turbo has about that much play at the moment

yep, sounds OK. All good turbo shops should and usually do give a free 30 second inspection for a turbo, they will confirm it's condition generally for you.

Yeah all turbos should have shaft play (just a little bit). Also you might want to check what condition the fins are in, if they are damaged on the outer, that will tell you if the shaft has to much play. Also check to see what the oil in the oil return and feed is like, remember thats wat goes through the turbo, and if it has a water feed, check that it does not have any blue shit in the fitting inside the chra, this generally means that the turbo has a knakered seal.
