Went to Mudgee over the weekend and had a blast on the dirt roads.

The place I stayed at was on top of a hill and the driveway starts from the bottom and winds its way up through a series of 4 hairpins.

Anyway, needless to say that I was sideways through them every single time I went through there.

One time, coming down the hill, got to the last hairpin and thought I was going too fast. Eased on the brakes, weight went to the front, and the rear end came around, and around, and around. At that point, I thought, if I brake any more, I'm gonna spin out, so oppy lock and a big dose of throttle and a drift that the japs would be proud of.

Was never out of control at any point, just not what I wanted to achieve for the corner since it was a driveway which means it was very tight and had tall dirt banks on either side. Not much room for error.

It's always funny when you get into those sorts of situations, your reflexes take over and you do what has to be done without thinking about it. But afterwards, when you think about it, you wonder how you managed it. At the time, I knew where I had to go and my hands and feet just sorta placed the car into that slot...

Wish I got it on tape... It was a mad drift... hehe

hehe Yeah, every year, I try to do a winery tour. Not just for the wine but 'coz I love the dirt roads. Smile

I must say the Mudgee roads are much better than the Hunter Valley ones for sideways action!

It was a B&B up on the top of a hill...

speaking of dirt roads....there are all these weird little roads in between tambar springs and binnaway (no i don't really expect enyone to know where those places are!)...I was coming down one of said roads, at night, with shitty lights in a mazda 808. It turns out that these roads are all 90 degree corners which you can't reallly see 'cause the trees grow so close to the road! I discovered the first one at about 100kph, I don't think I've ever puckered so hard as I oppy lock slid right across the road and somehow didn't hit anything, got the arse just on the slope leading down into the table drain on the wrong side of the road, dropped a couple of gears as I was sliding and buried it on the way out!

I too wish that I had a camera!

The place I stayed at was called the Mudgee Homestead Guesthouse...

It's on Coorunmbene Rd, just off Buckaroo Rd...
