Re: Newbie question about the GA70 1g-gte Supra

A 1G is capable of that, it requires nice IC, nice exhaust, new turbos and aftermarket ECU...although it would be a little easier on an American dyno
If you're looking for that sort of power, a 1JZGTE from a JZA70 is probably a better option, bolts in, can make the sort of power you're after on factory turbos and the 1G is going to be just as hard for you do find.

The 1jz would be awesome but it costs about 3x as much as a 1g swap. Also, no one in America has a 1g in their Supra, so I would be original. Also considering the reliability vs. the alternatives in my price range (the 7MGTE) the 1g makes perfect sense.
I hear there is an HKS big single kit. Somebody makes a stroker kit. and also a Trust TD04 upgrade kit for the 1g so it can't be all bad. And yes it'd be a lot easier on an American dyno.
Let's see... The 1g-gte and W55 + intake + full 3 inch exhaust + electronic boost controller (boosting 1 bar) + necessary supporting fuel mods (i.e. FPR, Pump, and FCON or Rebic LC) = 300 rwhp on an american dyno... or close to it don't u think?

Nooo...look again. A 1JZGTE from a JZA70 will be a LOT cheaper swap. Seriously dude, you will spend the difference between a 1JZ and 1G initial purchase will be eaten up by trying to make the 1G as powerful....

Well I have looked into both and the 1jz swap would definitely be more expensive. First of all the front clip is $2500 (US), then you have the steering rack, a new crossmember, new clutch, new radiator, (depending on the quality of your clip) a new fan set up, power steering lines... it adds up. However I know of a 1g "clip" for $600 and then all I would need would be to re-wire the harness which would be handled by my friend Mike Urbano. The 1g and W55 bolt right in with no need to change crossmember, motor mounts, steering rack or steering lines etc. It might be cheaper down under but in the states the 1j swap is going for about $4000 - $6000 (US). And I'm not that rich.

hi jag
Iput a 1g from a ga70 in my hilux is go's hard but in the long run the best option would of been a 1or2jz.Ihave price around to get the rwh you are after and its well over 5or6k so at the end of the day the 1jz or 2 would be worth it at the end.

Don't listen to the naysayers. It goes without comment that the 1JZ is a better engine, but if you want 300rwhp (particularly a US 300rwhp then a 1GGTE will do it for you no sweat. I know a guy with considerably more power than this from his 1G, and with no internal modifications.
A moderately sized TO4 (or ideally something a bit more modern with a ball bearing carriage) would do the trick. Backed with an upgraded fuel pump, some fuel/ignition control, and decent intake/exhaust system 300rwhp is a walk in the park. You may need larger injectors, I am led to believe that 7MGTE injectors will do the trick.
That said I still agree that the 1JZ is a better option if you can afford the initial outlay. You will probably make 300rwhp (US) with basic upgrades like intercooler/exhaust, which will work out much cheaper in the long run because the stock ECU and turbos will support that no problems.

Dude, if you were considering a swap other than using a GA70 or JZA70 cut, then you would be shooting yourself in the foot. Buying a JZA70 cut would require no custom work at all, remove 7M and ancillaries, plug in 1JZ and ancillaries...straight bolt in. Trying to plug in either engine from a totally different chassis would be silly. Pick the right cut and save yourself some $.

Except if you live in the USA where they drive on the wrong side of the road. A RHD jza70 cut isn't going to be as easy to use in a LHD supra as they are here.

What is causing you to need all these extra bits for the 1JZ that won't be needed by the 1G?
