Car alarms and immobilisers Thu, 08 April 2004 00:56 Go to next message
hi everyone,

say if i was in the market for a aftermarket car alarm and immobiliser with remote cental ~my car does already have central~ and had about 200-500 to spend.

i was looking at getting a pager system with this, i was just wondering what you guys would recommend for me, i have a toyota celica ST184.

whats a good brand, good features to look at getting ~ie black wiring, battery back up alarm, pager, 3 port imobiliser, etc etc~ whats a good price and whats not reliable, i have seen several remote immobilisers fail and coz grief to there owners.

any ideas post them please

For $250 I dont think youll find a pager system (unless you can install it yourself).

You might try www.dynamco.com.au, they could point you to an installer. I had the P785 done for $440 installed which is basically their top model. (Diagnostics, transponder type (walk up immobiliser off, walk away immobiliser on Smile ), 2 point immobiliser, backup battery alarm, etc... ) Black wiring is basically standard on every alarm system these days.

For $250 you might be able to get one of their immobilisers installed because their cheapest alarm system is approx $300 installed. So basically it depends if you can / want to do it yourself on what model you can afford.

Had bits an pieces done to my system the other week and once the labels are taken off, the only way to tell which wire is which is a volt meter and an ID chart. Dont think they would give that chart to anyone but installers though.

Unless you know what your doing, your gonna have to pay for install. Unlike a stereo system, it isnt very straight forward.

That alarm states 2km but be vary of that because that would be for perfect days in open areas. Few walls around the place and you probably wont get reception.
