ae86 steering rack Tue, 20 August 2002 01:39 Go to next message
Anyone know a good place to buy reco steering rack for the ae86 sprinter? Mine is badly worn.

Had some pretty high quotes for rebuild/exchange ranging from $300 - $400. There is a company out west who does them for $200 which sounds good but hard to get the old rack out there and pick it up when finished.

Thanks!

you reckon $300 is a high quote? don't ask about rebuilding a gearbox then. you'll go into heart failure. double your rack price, and half again minimum.

Found a place at bookevale, rebuilds them for around $140! I've had work done through them before and quality seems good.

this may sound off topic but do u reckon the AE86 steering rack would be a possible choice to do a rack and pinion conversion into a RA23/28/40 series celica?

im just asking seeing as tho you are playing with a AE86 rack at the moment.

yeah i've been thinking the same thing. the width has to be around the same i would have thought.

someone the other day said a mazda 323 rack is an option. but not sure about steering column and the uni joints etc.

i think jamie (1UZ-FTE) used a 323 rack in his TA22

and the RA60 rack might be a little too long.

Does anyone know if the 323 rack is manual or power? I don't want power steering rack.

Cheers
