I am wanting to convert my auto RA40 to manual. I gather i am going to need everything from the bellhousing back + fly wheel, clutch kit and so on. what I need to know is will the parts from any celica fit or will i need to get them off another RA40?
Also this has anyone done this type of conversion b4? if so did you take it to a shop or do it yourself?

This was the first thing i did when i got my RA23.
You will need: W50 gearbox, from RA40 with right extension housing for ur shifter hole. RA40 Pedal box Clutch Cylinder/Slave Cylinder All Clutch lines Thrust bearing Thrust fork Presure Plate Friction Plate Flywheel Driveshaft
And plus the gearboot, gaiter etc....
From memory, i only spent a 100 or so on the lil parts, all 2nd hand, another 100-150 for gearbox and xmember.
I had a friend at a mechanics place put it in cos hes a rwc tester and cos he has a ratchet gun and i dont
Good luck! And dont forget to tell Vicroads or whoever that ur car is now a manual, a simple phone call should do if it was done by a mech. Cheers
PS i basically used RA40 parts to put into my RA23, so i guess theyre interchangeable. Its just the shifter location is different i think, ass RA40s have two shifter locations? i.e RA40a and 40b

Also, short out the auto shifter inhibitor switch or you won't be going anywhere.

do it yourself you lazy shit!!
The tailshafts should line up OK...My Ra28 auto tailshaft lined up ok when I used a W57 out of a RA60 (I used all the parts off a RA60 but I ended up with some dodgyness in the pedal box. find the right pedal box if you can.)
The conversion is real easy, it is the first mechanical thing I ever did and it went OK took me 2 days though.
Good luck.

If it was soooo easy I would do it (maybe with some help...)
But I can't just use the W57 out of an RA6X because I need an M series bell housing, so I'd need one of those as well (prbly off a MA61 supra, cheap?? lol) also a manual x-member for a cressida?? (ever seen a stock manual cressida?, so that means custom mounts....or adapt a MA61 x-member?) also the tail shaft IS the wrong length so that has to be made shorter (not a big deal really...). And I still need the master and slave cylinders and pedals!
Don't get me wrong I would love to do it, but its a bit more work that converting a car that did come out in manual form at some stage, and cressida parts are not exactly all over the place!
Cheers Wilbo

It would easily cost a grand for a shop to do it for you. An expensive excercise. Gearbox and new clutch arent cheap themshelves. Best to find someone with a bit of knowledge to show you how. Not a fun job but best of luck

See i knew the price figure wouldn't be pretty. Could be cheaper just to buy a Celica with a manual. Depends on how attached you are to your car
