i have a ke30 with an 1166cc 3k engine in it. from what i have seen/been told it is dead easy to drop in a 5k. just wondering if any one has done this and are the results worth wile. i want to go to the 4a series of engines with injection and maybe boost but i thought this would be a good start till i get some cash. so should i go for it and get the experience and a little extra torque or is the difference not worth the effort and i should just save my cash.
thanks mike.
P.s. Stewart (old corollas) i have looked at your page and read the articles (very good). just want to know how much of a difference it would make.

The change to 5k is easy and the car will go a little better. I had one with 5 speed in a KE35 some time ago. Its now for sale cheap.

thanks
the 5K will have more torque and be more driveable down low...
stock, a 5K (1500) will be nicer than 3K or 4K (1200, 1300cc) but until you do some work they are all fairly pitiful
if you are dfinitely going 4AG later, i'd say don't bother with the 5K unless you get one very cheap. they still command fair prices around the place, but thy come up cheap occasionally.
instead, get a 4K block, stick on the 3K head with a bit of exhaust porting, crappy extractors, mild cam, and you'll be happy for a while.. 4K's are cheap, and usually thrown away and if you break it.. no worries...

thanks. am going for pink slip tomorrow and then out to a corolla wrecker to get any thing i need with a mate with a ke35.
or blow some cash on some stuff i don't need. so far on the list is a set of sway bars, a tow-bar, maybe a 5 speed, spotties (1977 high beam sucks). might just add in a 4k and some extractors. what do you guys think of a webber carb and appropriate manifold. will only get these if they are dirt cheep as i will never be happy with the k series so don't want to piss away money on a lost cause. (no offense intended).
on another note what kind of rpm are these things safe at. last night i saw 75km/h in second with stock 4 speed. and my mate moved his feet back and crossed his legs.......
when i asked him why his answer was simple and made alot of sense......
i cant afford a day of work to get my feet sewn back on when the flywheel comes out the side of the bell housing and through the foot well.
