Track/Training Days where/when/how

Guys,
I really want to get involved in more track stuff yet have almost no experience (that isn't to say I am a crap driver, but just my track stuff is rather, uh, limited) and have researched up the following people and am thinking about going on one of these courses:
http://www.murcott.com.au/
http://www.sidewaysaction.com.au/
http://www.ianluff.com.au/
http://www.finlays.com.au/
They are VERY expensive though.
What I would love to know is there like a CAMS affiliated club that runs track days/motorkahanas which are not too intense and where perhaps I could get some tips and training off memebers?
I know quite a few clubs run, "try it for a day" kind of days, and I would like to do this, but also be able to receive some instruction along the way.
I know quite a lot of you out here do regularly go to stuff like this so if you could point in the right direction I would be SOOOooo grateful!
Thanks heaps for reading and in advance for whatever you say.
Rob

join a cams affilliated club that runs modern regularity. ive competed in that, its basically you drive around the track and have to keep your lap time as close to your nominated time as possible. they let cars out in order of the time they nominated so that theoretically there should be no overtaking (there is still a bit sometimes). and your not racing against the other cars so you can go at your own pace (usually everyone just tries to go as fast as they can within reason)
as long as youve had a bit of hard driving experience you shouldnt find it too hard. after the first 5 laps on the track (warmup) i only managed to pick up another half a second over the next like 25.
having good brake pads and if possible road legal race rubber is important. i had neither the first time, so u can still do it, but i ended up with no braking and no grip after a few laps
is fun get out and do it

Rob,
Call the NSW CAMS office, (02) 9635 1366, or email, nsw@cams.com.au, for a list of events, and CAMS affiliated clubs to suit your needs. I'm actually a member of the WA Mini Car Club, even though I don't own a mini, for my CAMS requirements, and to boot, am a member of a great social club too!

yeah i was a memeber of the Austin 7 club when i competed. there are plenty of different events you can do, but i think that modern regularity is a nice safe starter event to get into, without getting thrown too far into the deep end, allthough i was VERY nervous for my first lap

For a less nerve racking introduction to motorsport, I'd suggest long course motorkhanas - you get to push your car as hard as you like or it will allow, there's plenty of time to think about how you're driving as you watch other people drive the same course (also a great way to pick up driving tips by watching people who are faster than you), and you can do it in a standard street car if you wish, with the only real regulation being that you must be wear full length clothes while driving.
