How do these compare to 18rgu/18rgeu powered RA28's, and what are the legalities of this conversion?

The comparison is 114kW vs 157kW. Well, make that about 190kW with a $20 bleed valve. Smile

Nuff sed.

It would probably go a little harder once pulling, and be a darn sight smoother. Nod

Cheers for the info, the 18rgu is thirsty and temperamental, so my goal is something some amount of go, but with more drivability around town and longevity. The current engine is also starting to rattle a bit, so I don't really want to spend money converting to efi, if I could pick up a 1gge cheaply. Anyone gotten away with sourcing a 1gge and having it up and running for under $1500?

A 1G-GE will definately drink less. My 1G-GTE drinks about 12L/100km whilst being thrashed around town. The old 21R-C used to guzzle about 14L/100km.

Given the choice between 18R-GEU and 1G-GE, I'd take the 1G-GE. It's more modern, lighter, more efficient, not as old, and revs to buggery.

unfortunately ive never lined up against a 18R-G so no one can say for sure. (if anyone with an 18R-G is offering id gladly oblige) Very Happy

but im pretty sure 1G-GE will have it over the 18R-G in driveability and fuel consumption.

I picked up a GA70 front cut for $950 and made my money back selling the parts off the front cut to ma70 owners.

1G will bolt in no hassles, minimal mods to exhaust (if u already have a good one, need to change sides), then wiring and fuel system.

if you already have a good exhaust system, do EVERY thing yourself bar the wiring u could just get away with that price.

it will really depend on how much u get the engine for and how much your exhause cost

whoops and dont forget engineering. Embarassed

if you were in NSW id offer for u to come and visit to see how mine goes for yourself.

u can check this tech article i wrote out, might give you a few tips.

EDIT: the 2 sump pics that dont show up on the tech article can be found here http://users.bigpond.net.au/rsturzen/conversion.ht ml

cheers

my 1gge gives me 10L/100km but is running wolf 3d and idles kinda high, I imagine standard ecu would do better.
by the way, as the article says make sure you get complete 1/2 cut. makes things heaps easier and cheaper. (learnt the hard way)
