i don't know much about mechanics so heres the best i can do.... whats the plastic tube thing that sits on the lower control arm and has a bolt through it connected to some other thing. The plastic tube has 1 rubber sitting on top and 2 on the bottom. Now i want to know is it safe if this thing is loose? as the tools wont fit under it to tighten it and my mechanic the prick hasn't been showing up and im 2 scared 2 drive the car as i dont know if its safe or not.
The plastic thingy and bolt had fallen out before and i did notice the steering was shakey at high speeds and also when i gave it around a corner the front would drift.

are you absolutely sure it's a plastic tube?
if you don;t feel it's safe to drive.. don't...
if you have a manual for your car, look up what it is called...
if yu don't have a manual, get one... and becoem your OWN mechanic

im 100% its plastic........... i dont have a manual (it's an excel it doesn't deserve one) JKZ
but yeh its plastic i have no idea weather its safe or not because i realised an ugly hitting sound (thought it was an engine mount) but when i jacked it up i found it was the plastic tube with the metal bolt in it hitting against the lower control arm. i put the bolt and plastic thingy back in place but its still a little loose.

A picture can tell a thousand words, can you post up either a thousand words or a pic of the offending item, cos frankly I cant figure out what it is you're talking about.

i wish i could but i have no digi cam...... is there like a user manual for a excel on the web??????
the plastic tube is approx 10cm long and has a bolt through it with 3 rubbers that sits on top of the lower control arm onto what looks like a sway bar but behind the motor.

ahahahahahhaha well lube mobile wants $60 just to come out to my place and thats not including anything...... and i really really really need to leave the house (family is overseas and theyve taken all there car keys with them)
Well its plastic but has a metal bolt that slides in it with a nut on the other side that connects the plastic/bolt onto the cotrol arm with a few rubber bushes
Its puzzling on weather its safe or not but i have been driving the car with the thing completely disconnected (i didnt know) but now i do know and im a bit worried!

is this an indication that they know what your driving style is and they dont trust you with thier cars??? maybe thats why they got you a hyundai ..bwwwhahahaha
it sounds like your talking about the rigid positronic bilateral brace, it should be ok for short drives just dont fang it. drive it down to the local mechanic and get him to fix it on the spot. shouldnt take too long to replace it.

whilst 99% of your excel is going to be shitty plastic, it sounds like what you're describing is a steering stop
jesus fuck, even corollas stopped using control arm steering stops in the 80s, makes you real confident driving an excel doesn't it. kinda like how a ford ka still has a pushrod kent 1300. thats like an echo with an efi 4k

oh i'm not bagging kent motors, far from it, i myself drive a ke25 with a worked 4k. i love old motors, cheap power, fun and easy to work on and it doesnt matter if you break them
but if i was buying a 2004 model car with a 4k in it, well, that's just pathetic

heh heh
it must be either a plastic cover over a metal thing, or maybe a powder coated metal thing... i can't see a plastic link between control arm and swaybar lasting long..
either way, it shouldn't be loose, and although not exactly dangeros to drive with it, i wouldn't recommend it..
hope it works out ok

It's true, some cars have plastic swaybar links. Scary huh? I saw one a while ago, can't remember what car it was though.
