strange stalling

ok, not a toyota question, but I'm guessing this is a "general car" problem. Was driving my friend's 180sx along in an industrial area. It was being driven hard ... and then suddenly at about 80km/hr the car wouldn't respond to the accelerater anymore. when I put the clutch the engine stalled. We pulled over, and had a realy bitch of a time trying to get the thing to start again, and when we finally did it was running rich. I'm talking CLOUDS of smoke going everywhere. we limped it home, and it wouldn't go above about 2500rpm ... there was just nothing more it would give. And it was a shuddering, jerking ride.
Any ideas what the problem could be? we were thinking something to do with the fuel pump or ecu ... or maybe a blown fuse? any ideas appreciated

Like Toyotas, Nissans go into a 'safe' or 'limp home' mode if a serious fault is detected. This may be your problem. I suggest you check the fault codes.

If it's running really rich, check the coolant temp sensor. The plug may have fallen off or something. If the plug's off, it'll be an absolute bitch to start and yeah, when it does, you'll see the fuel coming out the exhaust.

On the CA18, it's sort of on the front of the manifold. It's red plug that looks like an injector plug. Look very closely. It's in a similar place on the SR20.
