Get rid of the 6*9's they are an in between for people who don't have subs and want everything from a tweeter to a sub in one package.

Plus the standard shelf mount 6*9's and sub in boot combo will produce nothing but crap, the sub and the 6*9's will be opposing each other, 6*9's will loose the battle and you will have no mid range. Get a pair of 6 inch splits in the front.

As for amp prolly go for a 4 channel and bridge for the sub, but talk to the dealers, they generally have a good idea of what will work best for your budget.

There a many schools of thourght about car audio setups...

This is my recommendation for a simple install (read) good performance cheap end of the scale. Be open to others ideas as well as you'll get told alot of different ways.

The following is my recomendation:
Find a nice 4 channel amp with a good ouput. connect the 6x9's to channels 1+2 and "bridge" channels 3+4 to run the sub.

Do you have front speakers installed??

This is a good Amp for the money. No flashy lights, Names etc but good shit...

yes ive contemplated the response amp, and thought about doing exactly that, using chan 1+2 and bridging the other 2. I have no room for speakers in the front of my car as it just didnt come with any (ford escort mk2 ghia Very Happy) so thats why i wanted to put it all in the back. Also the parcel tray is metal and cant be removed so i would ahve to sit the speakers above it some how as i dont want to massacre the car its too original
thanks a lot guys

What about pods for the fron doors?? they fix to the door trim and will take a 5 inch or a 6 inch with a small depth magnet.

You'll be much happier with the results from the front split + sub setup than rear 6x9 + sub

Basically it's the rated output for bridged mode.

4ohm is 1 channel running 1 (4 ohm) speaker
2ohm is 2 channels bridged running 1 speaker or 2 speakers wired in paraell (sp) from 1 Channel capable of running a 2ohm load

I could go into the electronic formulas that prove it but I don't know them. Razz

To Work out parallel: say you have 2x 4 ohm speakers, you then flip the ohm rating, so it goes to 1/4. Then add them together 1/4+1/4 = 1/2, then flip it back so it would be 2ohm.

or to be a real PITA its:
Rt=1\(1\R1+1\R2)

where:
Rt= total resistance
R1= first resistance
R2 = second resistance

so if you have 2 4 ohm speakers in paralell you would
1\(1\4+1\4)
= 1\(1\2)
which = 2 ohms

i find callifo's method easy if you only have a few easy resistances to work with otherwise i use the method i suggested.
funilly enough i know people who can only really do it one way or the other no matter what the problem...yet i use whichever method "seems" easiest at the time for me...
anyways i'm just talking crap

as to what amp
those jaycar responce amps are pretty cool from what i've heard about them, good bang for buck or so people say.
as to the sub and 6x9s, from what i've been told its not a very smart idea as they sound crappy together(as squid was saying)

The perfect amp for this situation would be an Audison SRx3. It has 2 stereo channels and one sub channel, all channels are 2 ohm stable. I agree with what the others are saying too, turf the 6x9's, they are a waste if you already have a sub. Get yourself a nice set of splits for the front of your car and run them off the amp.
The amp has several different configurations that can be used, the 1 or 2 best suited are
2x75wrms + 1x250wrms @4Ohms or
2x65wrms + 1x340wrms @4/2Ohms

Apparently Jaycar have discontinued their line of Response amps...I went to buy one but the last 1 was sold 30 min earlier Evil or Very Mad ... DAMN. Just make sure when you buy your amp, look at the RMS not W (VERY IMPORTANT) Wink
