putting together a turbo

my mate has a fine T04 turbo hes GiVING me but it is in pieces, can i put it together my slef or do i have to get it done professionally, if so how much
how would this go on a 18RG

depends on how many pieces it is in. If its just the guts and then put the housing on then it easy enough. The main question is why is it in pieces in the first place...

being a garret you will haveta get new seals for it brforey ou put it together they aint that hard to put together if ya know a bit bout them or have had one apart
as for if it will suit 18rg... it depends on how big the exhaust husing is.. the a/r ratio some can be small some can be big

yup, get new seals...
there is much mystery about turbos, but it's mostly just because it's a high $$ industry. buy a seal kit, put the core together, maybe put a new bushing in if it needs it.. then take the core to a good place to get balanced... theres a turbo shop in Vic somewheres(i can't remember who, but could find out) that will balance the rotating assembly for $60...
once thats done, housings are easy...
you don't _need_ to balance it, but might be cheap insurance. afaik, balancing is only done to 50-60Krpm, whereas it may spin up to 150Krpm in service.... some is better than none tho

there is a turbo place in archerfield they are very good....
it is called qpc i think.. used to be turbo torque
