can anybody help me please!! i have either got a major wiring or power supply problem.

the tacho never shows more than 4 grand, even when i'm throttling it and the fuel gauge and temprature gauge also only work on sorta half power... what can i do to fix this problem easily, or do i have to take it in to an auto electrician????

the wires behind the dash are an absoloute mess, the previous owner seems to have liked messing around with things he shouldnt have been

I've had this happen before - the problem is a dodgy earth somewhere in the dash loom, often due to corrosion. Get under there and look for the earth lead (it will be bolted to the chassis/body somewhere) and make sure it's on properly and free of rust.

I also had this problem but i can and went when I went over bumps. I ended up fnding a dodgy fuse, that was making a circuit soe of the time.

First of change all of the fuses, they are quite cheap so I wouldnt even bother checking them first. just change them and be done with it, if the problem persists it is like norbie said. But I would urge you to check the fuses as they are easy to change and no body likes getting up undr the dash.

witzl is spot on the money

1: go to wreckers, find RA23 with dash loom, remove (label stuff so you know where it goes back)

2: remove your dash

3: rewire

4: hopefully no more problems.

Are you kidding?? I'd rather pull my own toenails out than re-wire the dash! That's definitely a last-resort thing; exhaust all other possibilities first!

yeah i got that one night in my corolla, it should be the fuse if the dash and taillights stopped at the same time, just find the one thats broken!

when it happened to me i had to drive home without taillights on a dark country road, but i guess i was driving fast enough that no-one was going to ram into the back of me anyway Smile

I'll just put my 2c worth in, I had a similar problem, we had forgotten to put an earth in, and the dash was doing ALL sorts of wierd things, similar to what you are describing..

Search the earths I would suggest.

i think you should put new fuses in anyway as when they get old they stuff up like mine wern't blown but wouldn't alow any current to flow through then while i was playing around with them the metal end cap just fell off, also the fuse element is connected by solder so although the fuse might not be blown it may not be alowing much current through as when solder gets old its resistence tends to rise and rise due to heating and cooling of it all the time.

thats why often with old tv's when they start playing up and you take them in to get repaired all they do is resolder all the joins and that fixes them,

so yeah in short
CHANGE FUSES IF OLD
