I think what he means is any damage to the car but a perfect front end... Thats what I reckon anyway...

in that case you should be able to pick one up for no more then 500 bucks depending on the extend of the damage. you could find that you will most likely save more. buyers there are usually people either wishing to use it as a wreck or reregister it as a road car, so nobody wishes to pay to much.
good luck anyway

I was told that frontcuts are expensive because they contain the chassis rails, which can be used for repairing a vehicle etc.

that cant be right. how can you reuse chassis rails? it is possible but very very expensive to do the job. cost more in labour then the cars worth.
the reason wreckers charge so much is because they have to pay there overheads and know there is no other option for you to get some parts

Well, from my experiance: for an AE86 that was totalled down the right side: worthless, and cannot be repaired.
I set my limit at $700, and when my last bid was beaten from $800 to $850 I realised I was against a wrecker and he would have gone till $1000 I stopped bidding.
Something do not always go as you think

No ge, Plain ass, Oz delivered AE86. Country owner, books and all that. Havily crashed.
It does depend who is there but just be aware that all is not so good. If you see it as a good deal, there is a cahnce somebody see's the same thing.
