thats what i thought too, the fronts are the same, and have the same part numbers, but the backs are different. The ra40 ones are shorter than the ra23 ones. So when i put them in, the spring was compressed a little bit, and the shock was at full extension. Hence it made this banging noise and kinda jumped around corners. Ra23 ones are about 2 inches longer, i have a pic of the two side by side but it is too big to upload

For interests sake, did you buy them new?
Can you send them to Adelaide? If so, I'll give you $60 including postage.

How much "advice" did you get from Pedders when you bought them?

i didnt buy them new, i bought front and rear shocks second hand for a ra23. I only realised they were the wrong ones after putting them. i took the car to pedders where they told me they were the wrong shocks, so i bought the right one for the ra23 ($140). Ive been told that these shocks are only 4 months old. I'll have to see how much postage is, they arent that heavy so it shouldnt be a problem.
