1G GTE diff and cooler upgrades??? Sat, 17 April 2004 07:52 Go to next message
I want to upgrage my cooler and diff, I have a RA60 with a
1G GTE dropped in. I want to upgrade to LSD and i have heard that the hilux dif centers fit straight in. i dont know if this is true or not. The other thing i wanna know is if i get a bigger cooler can i keep the same cooler piping and just modify it a bit because there is a fair bit of room in the front to play with.

If any one can help me i would be a happy man.

Im in melb by the way

The Hilux diff centre will not just fit in. Your RA60 will have a T-series diff, you really need a larger F-series diff or a G-series (this is the Hilux one) to take the power. If you do a search on the forums you should come up with information for both. You can get an LSD centre for either of these diffs.

As for the cooler piping, you will be able to keep the factory cast pipes across the engine, but obviously the rest of it will need to be replaced. This is what I'm planning to do for my swap. I'm coming down from the factory pipes and doing a 180 degree turn at either end to go into the end tanks of my cooler.

Hope that helps.

Nathan

With that I couldn't help ya mate. Have a search around, can't remember the models the F-series came out of. The G series came out of a Hilux, but I don't know which size one (width wise) would be right for you.

As for pricing, that all depends on how smooth you are with the wrecker Wink

F series IRS (if you want to ditch the live axle) came in RA65's and MA61 (MA61 had rear disks too Smile ), I believe that these may bolt up, tho I would defiantly check up on that (the floor pan mounting may indeed differ from live axle to IRS models (ie RA60 -> RA65) and I'm not sure if an RA60 can have an IRS rear end easily fitted)!

Not sure what F series live axles came out in, I think MS112? (or something like that) crowns and some really old hiluxes (RN42?), but I'm not sure on the width etc (they also had rear disks tho Cool).

Cheers
Wilbo

Don't even think about swapping the IRS...WAAAY more hassle than it'd be worth. If you wanted it, just buy an RA65 and swap your stuff over. As a bonus, an RA65 already has an F-series diff and the nicer headlights.

Yeah, the RA60 has a different floorpan to the RA65, so the IRS definitely won't bolt up. I agree, purchasing an RA65 would be the best option!

RA65's would be fairly cheap, but the hassle factor is there.

Hope at least you're in the right direction Very Happy
