Has anybody used this. My friends car has a small leak near the steering rack boots. Not enough that it ever needs top up of fluid though. I have heard of a few people using the lucas stuff in a white bottle and it cures these leaks. Apparently it is really thick (viscous), it is guaranteed to stop leaks. Is this likely to stuff the pump, or in small proportions be beneficial.

I also searched it on the web, couldn't find anything negative, just found a few reports of it stopping leaking racks. Where the rack leaks is close to rear g/box mount (can this fluid deteriorate the rubber of mount?), just seems a lot of money for a recon rack when rack itself seems in good nick and I'm not volunteering to pull down rack to put seals in (that could end in tears Crying or Very Sad ).

Thanks for listening Surprised

to be honets, any 'oil additive' be it engine, gearbox, or power steering, should only be considered a very short term band-aid. they change the viscosity and othe rproperties, and they will increase the heat generated in the PS system.

if it's leaking, change the seals Wink
if it's leaking fromt he boots, it's probably just the rack end seals that need attention. much better to change it than run shitty additives thru the whole system

just my 2c.

Thanks for the input. Yeah.. rack end seals, I'll have to investigate how hard this job would be, when I've mentioned to a couple of mechanics, they say "reco rack" time..but seems a bit excessive just for rack end seals. I thought there must be a downside to adding all this viscosity. Are these pumps in corollas pretty resilient? I wouldn't want to wreck the pump if tried this additive for a "short" term fix.

Taking the rack out to fix the rack seals would be a bit of a pain. Sad . But will most likely have to be done at some point.

Everybody seems to say this product works well, but I woul have expected some premature pump failure? Confused Surprised
