Just a big encourager here guys ..
Some may know i had a bit of a fall a week or two back that resulted in a ambulance trip to the hospital .. @ k's down the road , non emergency run ..
I recieved the bill for this friday , for a trip that lasted no more than 3 minures - one way - Over $1000 is owed now ..
Now i wasnt a member fo the ambualnce sceme - which i know is stupid of me, but here in victoria its only like 50 dollars per person - and it covers you for all transport needed - without being slugged the bill that i recieved
SO - i stress to you guys and girls - if your not already in it - JOIN so it doesnt cost you as much as what im having to deal with..
Cheers

Wait till you have to get choppered anywhere......the five figure bill makes you wish you had died!
Minimum trip fee in a road car is $850.

If your in Queensland you pay the Ambo fee in your power bill. So everyone is coverd anyway.

my gf had to be taken to hospital a few weeks back, her bill just recently came and it was for $250. The total time of the trip was less then 3mins as she was in the same street as the hospital.

I think he's saying that there's no process by which you can be charged for an ambulance trip because it's funded through a levy from your power service provider. It's not like you have to have power connected to be exempt or that you'll have to pay the ambulance fee if you're behind on your power bill...

Bassicly if you live in a house that has power connected you are covered. If you dont have power connected you are not covered.

most health insurance packages also have ambo cover also ... tho mine doesn't give me any rebate for the Qld situation (where we all pay for ambo's via our power/gas bills) ;(

yeah i got a mad head wound a while ago, i was falling in and out of concience and the ambo wanted to take me but i made someone call my mum to drive me cause i know that a 25 minute ambo trip to the nearest hospital woulda cost shit loads.
if you are unable to make such a judgment and you are carted off to the hospital, after they fix you up flat out refuse to give them your details, kick up a stink and walk out. i know someone whos done it

and people wonder why ambos/doctors/nurses get so disgruntled.
you've got a serious head wound, they know the only safe thing to do is get you to hospitel, then get abused when they potentially save a life.

Imagine what it would cost after a serious accident in the middle of nowhere and having the helicopter pick you up.

serious accidents/life threatening type emergencies don't cost you a cent. that is, if your injuries dictate that it is not safe for you to travel any other way then you get it for free.
i know cos i took my brother to a hospital with a killer headache, turned out it was an annuerism, and he had to be ambo'd about 40 minutes to a more suitable hospital.
a mate also had a car crash in outback type land and had serious head injuries, got ambulance for about 500km and didn't pay a cent.
tho that is SA, other states i guess would differ

you guys in vic are getting a raw deal...3 min amob trip for $1000
i was unfortunate enough to be in a similar situation...just before the new ambo levy came in i let my subscription lapse and low and behold i dislocated my knee & fucked my hamstring. This had happened to me before and i was able to slot it back in place but it wouldnt go this time...i couldnt move so an ambo had to come out. Took me on a trip from sunnybank hills to the PA hospital in annerly (about 20-25km)
i didnt realise my ambo cover had lapsed so when i got a bill for $700 i almost had a heart attack. I thought 700 was bad...eek!
