is it a double tick? like a tic-tic....tic-tic....
it could be a wheel bearing, or axle..
or even a loose rear drum shoe, wobbling inside the drum..
did it happened after any diff strees or just came in from nothing?

You can try jacking the car up in the air, putting it in neutral and spinning the rear wheels manually to pin point the location..

If the noise becomes bad going around a corner, ie, making one wheel spin faster than the other, then it's the spider gears.

If the noise is unchanged then it's probably the crown/pinion.

Although it could be wheel bearing, wheel, axle, etc etc...

Oh and check your wheels are all on tight!! I had a diff clunk
that was "getting worse and worse", when it was apparently
'about to blow' lucky I was on my way down an on ramp to the fwy, and got that gut feeling "check car, you are going to die" feeling, and yep back wheel had 1 nut left on it.

hope this helps!

the diff has tacken a bit of a beating lately thought i roated my tyres ther other day aswell and i took the back left brake drum cover thing off to check the pads and just put it back on , and the noise seems to be uncahged and only when going really slow , also when changing gears it is getting quite clunky,,

should i just replcae the diff center i have a spair one to use.

I would try this first, you may not need to use the other center, it may be wheel bearing issues or might be splines missing of the axles if you have been driving a little erratic (spelling)?

The other thing it maybe is the backlash on the crownwheel to pinion gear this would be why when you change gears the pressure is reduced and as you let the clutch back out it has to take up the slack on the two gears. No it doesnt nesecarily mean a rebuild but will need to be removed and adjusted any reasonable mechanic should be able to do it and should only cost about $50.
Cheers nev
