This is a quick back-slapping story and some shameless plugging for those that have earned it.
8 weeks before Dubbo I decided to get a totally new engine combo going for the Corolla. The idea had been on the drawing board in my head for some time and as such I had procured some parts. Rod Try (the el presidente) had a lot influence in the decision making process.
The job - build a 2T/3T hybrid - this necessitated the complete fabrication of a custom intake manifold and fuel rail. Fit it up with a GT30, new exhaust manifold and down pipe incorporating an external gate, new intercooler and intercooler plumbing and an entire re-design of the fuel system, a revised cooling system, improved oiling system and replacing the overworked gearbox.
The basics for the intake manifold were the first to be drawn up, and the aluminium was purchased for the project. Every spare moment for the next couple of weeks was spent drawing, measuring calculating, cutting and forming all of the manifold components until it was entirely tacked together.
Paul Holden came and helped pull the front off the car and assisted until the wee hours with the new radiator and associated mountings for the radiator and new thermo fans.
The radiator bracket incorporated the mounting for the intercooler.
Next -
Pull down the 3T and check the head gasket (we knew that it was leaking), check all relevant internals for abnormal wear (the engine was previously running 24psi and had travelled some 70 000kms). No surprises were to be had - the blown head gasket had revealed itself as the engine was coming out, and all internals were exceedingly good (this provoked people questioning how far the engine had really travelled).
THEN - rebuild the whole shebang, get it all to fit in and get it tuned and go to Dubbo.The engine was pulled out 4 weeks prior to the Nationals)
This did not happen without a SHITLOAD of help, and this is my reason for writing this post.

and with 193rwkw in a chassis weighing under 800kgs.... go figure
was 11.8 run on slicks? im gussing so, otherwise traction would be insanely hard to get
