I'd rather watch paint dry than see them live again. Saw them at Syd BDO1. Felt like I was 14 again. Definately not my cup of tea. Even quality drugs couldn't make the experience enjoyable.

A whole bunch of old 80's speed metal bands and some swedish metal as well. I don't mind new(er) school stuff though, but alot of it is very derivative of a few bands (Fear Factory aren't culprits in this case though). I like old Metallica, Megadeth, Annihilator, but I also like Darkane, At The Gates, Opeth, Dark Tranquillity...then some more aussie bands - Chalice (excellent Adelaidean band), Alchemist (hailing from Canberra). Then there's my classical music selection, of which most people have no interest in Smile

i like fear factory...a couple of their last albums have been a little below par. Demanufacture is the best imo. Digimortal almost made me throw up

do you like Strapping Young Lad FWDboy?

I'm with fwdboy

opeth, pain of salvation, flower kings, dream theater, within temptation, porcupine tree, alchemist (although their metal for the brain performance sucked, they were amazing backing up opeth last year)

I'm not so much into speed metal - much more interested in prog

(hijack)
I haven't heard much strapping young lad, but I think I'm supposed to Smile

Prog is cool, hopefully I'm going to get into a prog metal band soon enough when I get my equipment together ($$$).

Dream Theatre (or Theater?) seem pretty good although I need to check out some more of their stuff some time.

Alchemist didn't do too well in Adelaide last year supporting for Opeth, the levels on the equipment were all out and you couldn't figure out what song they were playing! Their latest album is good too, although I like Spiritech more (their first?).

The only thing close to techno (and far removed from metal) that I can stand is Delirium.

Not that I think Dimmu Borgir is brilliant, but Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was tolerable album. Otherwise Dimmu Borgir is pretty crap. Last two albums from Dimmu were sooo sad, utter crap IMHO.
There are much better artists. Like Immortal, Enslaved, Satyricon, Emperor(older) just to name few.

Yeahh I agree, the dimmu stuff I have would be tolerable were it not for a really bad keyboard sound they had going on. I don't really understand why they are so popular now.. I was kinda hoping Shagrath was indeed dead and they had line-up changes. Apparantly they are touring Syd and Melb soon.

Satyricon went a bit gay in recent times - and Satyr should never have been allowed to produce the later Darkthrone material!

Ihsahn from Emperor is definately on my list of Fagothic GayLords that Deserve to be Taunted. Which is a mighty shame, as yes, their early material was very good.

I think I must be getting old.
I can remember 'the good old days'.
Shocked

EDIT: Which is not to say there isn't some superb material out there! I'm just old and bitter. Hails to you for listing good bands Jayem.
