Quick one - Tyres and Wheels - Do 195s fit on 5" Rim ? ? Mon, 19 April 2004 07:49 Go to next message
Do 195 tyres fit on a 5 inch rim. I have some tyres that I want to fit to some Ae82 14 x 5" rims. They usually have 185s or less on them I think. I guess the tyre will bulge a bit more. Has anyone run 195s on these size rims?

Tried to search but couldn't find anything wholesome Sad

THANKS

well... i have 185's on a 6" rim, and they fit perfectly..

i think 195 on a 5" rim might be a bit of a stretch... and look really odd!!

I have 195/60 on a 5.5 and its a bit bulgy for my liking, so i think this would be even more so on a 5. It will fit but its not exactly optimal. Try a 175 or 185.

Bugger. Yeah I have 195s on I think a 6 inch rim (another st of wheel). They fit ok. You have to be careful not to bump the curb as there isn't much bulge at all. Will they only look wierd or are there other probs? Thanks Stewart and mumblez

I have just had a look at the Pirelli Guide to Tyres and the smallest rim they recommend for a 195 is a 5.5 inch. So, I would not recommend squeezing a 195 onto a 5 inch rim.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Thanks Mitch,

Did you find that guide on the net? It would be handy to have it. Mybe I just have to search "pirelli". I think I am convinced they are to wide for the 5 inch rim.

I got it from a Pirelli tyre dealer about 15 years ago. It lists tyre and rims sizes across the page by overall diameter making +1 +2 +3 +4 a walk in the park.

Cheers guys,

But I actually rang the tyre place and they said it would be fine. As you say it is a little bulgy but not too bad at all (Sorry to go behind your back). I got these Yokohamas at a good price so wacked them on. Having new tyres and the correct offset wheels = light steering Very Happy My AE82 now feels like it has PS but it doesn't Shocked . Better get a wheel alignment before I scrub them out.

PS I much rather a slightly thicker sidewall (i.e. higher profile..no tramtracking etc). I'm not sure how the newer cars that come stock with low profile get around this problem..maybe a lot of time in development Confused
