is this adequate for sound ? Mon, 19 April 2004 09:27 Go to next message
been checking a few places lately and went to Metrosound today got quoted for some stuff but i really went to check out a head unit and amp.
I want to run one 12 inch MTX thunder4000 and two 200w Pioneer 4 way 6x9's
the guy was thinking about running a clarion DXZ546MP headunit and a clarion APX400-4 amp. The amp pumps out 4x100watt and i was thinking of bridging 2 channels for the sub and run the splits with the other two.
Can anyone see objections ? i need input as i dont want to make an expensive mistake
thanks

Apparently 6x9s and a sub isnt a good mix, and I couldnt imagine how expensive that amp would be from clarion. Perhaps a Jaycar response amp (which has the same ratings) would be a fair bit cheaper?

Says its still available on the Jaycar website so you might be able to order it from there? There is also another website (cant remember it but I could find it out) which have them..

Let me help my friend. I recommend this ...

* find out what size FRONT speakers u can put in the front section of your car.. be it in the door or kick panels.. most probably 4' or 6' .... get a pair... (get splits... i recommend this). dont get 6*9s

* get your 12' sub

* get a 4 channel amp to run the sub (bridged) and the front speakers. Note about amps.. get one with crossover built in ...

And generally... a $400 'no name' amp will do a good enough job to power your system.. if you are not a SOUND GURU..

$400 on a brand name amp will probably get u a shit one... so u can buy a $400 no name ... or spend a little more to get a decent branded amp...

speakers $150-250
amp $400
deck $400-500
sub and box $200-300
wiring $60-80
Install - DIY of course !!

That will be the cost of your system ... kikass !
