1.9 diesel golf vs honda nsx ..

Don't know if the "fifth gear" car show is on in aus (I haven't been there for a while) it's a UK car show..
anyhows, the last episode they were extolling the virtues of NOS - and decided to race a 1.9 diesel VW golf against a honda NSX (they are quite quick)..
Got beaten of course, they then proceeded to fit a NOS kit to it, and raced them again.. it only got beaten by 2 car lengths!!
The golf then became a prize for some competition..
Just thought I'd share, as it was quite funny to watch!
and nos is legal for road use in the UK!

didn't know you could use NAAS with diesel.
I'm very interested.

Nitrous will work with any internal combustion engine, and I imagine it would be quite effective on a diesel provided you can get the fuelling sorted out. At least you don't have to worry about detonation!

NOS would be a nightmare in diesel with their short gearboxes.

This one was an auto ..
It was also setup so that it had the "armed" switch, but the magical nos button was under the accelerator, so that when it was armed, it came on only under full throttle..
And diesel engines are usually built quite strong, so apparently quite good for use with nos..
Another car show "top gear" (I think it is on in aus) had a nos article as well.. a £500 jag racing a bunch of exotics (including a ferrari).. add a massive nos kit and it caned the lot of them!

What do you mean by short gearboxes?
On my car:
1st....upto 25km/h (this is when I change coz the torque & power are dropping off - about 4000rpm)
2nd.... 50km/h
3rd.... 85km/h
4th.... 130km/h
5th....
My car only pulls 2400rpm in 5th at 100km/h, petrol model is at 3000rpm.
The lower gears are shorter than petrol ones, but diff ratio is way taller (I've got no idea what mine is as no owners manual) & the only reason diesels change gear early is because the power & torque are dropping off.
My car: peak torque of 200Nm at the wheels at 2400rpm, peak power of 49.5kW at the wheels at 3800rpm.
NOS would probably extend the rev range, as diesels have a very limited usable range due having to push against 24:1 compression ratio, and in my case 12psi of boost.

Torque, whats the availability of crashed diesel Avensis's like?
The engine in my car is only 2C-T SOHC diesel with the old mechanical pump.
The next model Caldina (the first Avensis in Europe) had the 3C-TE 2.2L SOHC electronic injected diesel, now it has the 2.0L turbo D4-D engine.
Power is now 85kW , but torque is 280Nm
Fuel economy is now 6L/100km for combined city/highway, my best is 7L/100km for purely highway.

hey wagonist..
I'm not really sure, but I will ask a mate over here that may know..
I had no idea diesel engines had such high compression !
On a petrol motor you are supposed to lower your redline when using nos (to ease the strain on the motor) - not at all sure about diesel though..
