fuel injector location Wed, 21 April 2004 08:15 Go to next message
ive been doing a bit of reading re: fuel injector location along the intake port/manifold tract length.

it would appear 'further away from the inlet valve' is the way to go, but if running ITB's, this would ultimately mean installing the injector before the throttle butterfly... god knows what this would do to low throttle position mixtures, let alone idle fuel delivery.

does anyone have any experience or opinions on this kind of assembly?

cheers

With slide style throttle bodies, the injector is generally located before the slide.

as dave has said slide throttle have the injectors in the ram tube and they tend to pond at low revs on the other butterflys you can put them after, like motec or speed technolgy 1s also some race cars run 2 sets 1set in the std posi and the others further out and i think motec make a dcoe 1 that has 2 injector holes for injectors to work at different stages .also the slide is a pain in the arse if it jams ,the 3rd system is barrels and they were used in the 2liter super tourers ,most road going cars well toyota any way keep them close to the back of the valve ,and every engine gives different readings ,depends on cams how much fuel ,how long the inlet is exhaust is compression etc etc

sound like a major PITA to run a 2 stage injector system based on throttle position. i guess a race engine doesnt really suffer from problems at idle or low throttle angles Sad

i think i might stick with the stock location for the injectors in the head. ill see if i can set up the foggers before the butterfly for all other WOT 'fuelling'

that way i still atleast get some cooling and atomisation benefit for the larger output numbers

V8 supercars etc. run the injectors before the throttle, but as said, idle/cold running can be a bit questionable. Why not run a set of standard injectors up next to the head, and another set right up further? Most aftermarket ECUs can support staged injectors, what engine is it anyway?

I'm using two sets of four injectors for the 4AF I'm building.
As mentioned above, one set close to the head for low/mid speed running and past about 50% throttle the set hanging out in mid-air will start up.
It's worth about 3% - 4% more torque having them out in the end of the trumpet, but there are mixed results with idle & low speed running with those skyhook injectors, hence that's why a lot of engines run the extra set.

on some bikes, i think it was GSX-R?? the injectors are positioned just upstream of the second butterfly...

when the throttle is closed, the injector sprays onto the part of the throttle that will open toward the motor... this way the fuel will be atomised a bit better by the air rushing past the butterfly. at WOT, the fuel will not impinge on the butterfly..

i guess it's a compromise between both systems...

or you run both sets of injectors (plus the fogger)?

do the dual table thing with megasquirt, main table for normal injectors, 2nsd table for the trumpet squirters - and run a separate ECU for spark and use ECU that to trigger the NOS foggers that also squirt down teh trumpets...

... well ... you did write something about "...larger output numbers..."

Cool

the chuckster - have you been reading my diary??

Laughing

anyway - ill have to look into dual stage management of parralel injectors. thanks y'all.

ive got a few space considerations to look at too. ill get back to you with what ends up looking reasonable

cheers
