Defect heaven, and I'd say a waste of time.
Think about why someone would want to swap a car for an excel?
Because their car has Issues with the authorities?
Is in need of some big work?
You'd prolly be getting the short end of the stick.

The reason the offer came up is because my mate the owner hasn't had his license for 2yrs as he lost them. he gets them bak in a month and the ute just came out of impound so thus why hes to scared to drive it as he doesnt want it to go back in there (locked diff small ute, u know what i mean). I tried a cash adjustment approach and didnt work as the ute owes him $$$$$$$.
Well my gfs just seen the ute so shes screaming her lungs out at me so yeh i dont think i will do it.

What?! So you're not gonna try ur luk?
I reckon the Datto ute would be a fun car to do up - just means more $$$ to get it somewhere where you want it to be.
Overall, it's practicality (Excel) vs. a potential better ride (Datto).
Plus the Datto being all old and still somewhat in demand may be worth it in the longer run - the Excel won't be worth much nowadays and even less in future.

yeh i have been having 2nd thoughts lately. I stupidly gave away my own 1969 dato ute 1000 a few mnths back. I have been researching this ute to look for the parts needed and my main concern is a front panel that sits behind the bar as this has been cut on the ute mentioned as there was a front mount when it had a quicker motor (now stock). My other concerns are brakes as the ones on the ute dont work for shit all and i have tried bleeding them. There drums and everyone is telling me thats the best theyll get.
The ute as is is pretty fun to drive (locked diff) and also has a extremely bouncy ride due to the leafs being flipped around and the car sitting on the floor.
However the excel is a less head turner and a less headache which makes it more practical for everyday use.
Im awaiting to have a loan approved and if so Project Dato begins which will feature a toyota twincam motor (just choosing one to throw in, any suggestions would be cool)
Sorry for the essay, just bored and full of ideas
Cheers Ahmed.
