erm... this isn't something to laugh about normally.. but it was an old bombed out car, and it was only for kicks too..
Anyways.. mate of mine has an old Nissan Bluebird out the back of his place, was his first car, the licence expired on it when he got his new car, but he couldnt sell the old one (didn't really try very hard)... so we recently thought.. eh.
We went out, oiled, filled and cleaned it up.. pushed it into the garage.. and put some petrol through it...
my mate gets in the car, hood up, and starts it.. it turns over first time, like it was used just yesterday...
he revs it a few times, and hops out to talk to me, as he walks to the front of the car, we hear a grinding, and then the chain flies off the car and into the wall of the garage..
O.o
I turned the car off and my mate is staring at this line in the engine block (looked like a chainsaw cut), and he goes "wow, that was fucking weird..". I walked over and picked the chain up, burned my hands, and walked back, he turns to me and goes "you think thats bad?" and goes to start it up again.. turns over, and sprays oil, smoke and what ever else all over me... so i just yelled "Yo! it's broken!"
... man im an idiot.
we have a laugh about it now.. at the time i didn't find it all that amusing.. cept the bit where the chain flew into the wall.
The moral of the story is "It may be 19 years old, and looks fine, but that doesnt mean that something under the surface isnt gonna cover you in goo."
If anyone is interested.. i think i still have some of the post-carnage pics we took.. ill search em out tonight.
i wasnt expecting that.. i thought it was more likely to throw a piston... murphys law.
