Is it bad to do a burnout where only 1 wheel spins? Is that hurting the little gears inside the diff?

burnouts do hurt the "little gears inside", they also hurt the crown and pinion gears in the diff, the axles, the universal joints on the tailshaft, the gearbox and all the "little gears inside", as well as your clutch...
what do you think? that it 'unhurts' things?

Easiest way to find out is to keep doing it - when it finally dies, open it up and look at what failed! Or you could simply say, "why bother?".

It's generally bad to do anything harsh to your car....especially a road car. Racing cars get rebuilt just about every season and they only cover a few thousand kays in that time, which tells you a bit about the longevity of pushing your equipment.

I think it all boils down to a little equation. Thrashing your car = something will break. Eventually every moving part will wear out and fail, by doing things like burnouts and the like with just shorten the life of your all moving parts in your driveline.
