4AGE water pump - hole??? Sun, 25 April 2004 06:31 Go to next message
I finally assembled my radiator today, and started putting water in, and voila all the water came back out...

After a lot of stuffing around and poking around (and taking the alternator back off), found the leak - there is a hole at the bottom of the water pump, right next to where the dipstick goes... WTF?

What's this hole for? How do I plug it? It doesn't look like it isn't supposed to be there (it's a very neat little hole, about maybe 4 or 5mm diameter). It isn't threaded, so I guess it's not meant to take a bolt. The 4AGE book doesn't seem to mention it...

Help?

I know most/all water pumps have a hole, for what purpose i dont know, but i do know if its leaking water then the seal in the pump is stuffed and needs replacing. Not the seal, the pump, too my knowledge water pump cant be repaired or its always cheaper to replace.

If the water pump hasnt seen water for awhile the seal will usually leak.

Sometimes they stop leaking but i wouldnt count on it.
