18RG RA23 - Registering in Qld?

Hi guys,
I have an unregistered RA23 Celica that I am currently in the middle of sanding and painting. I also have an 18RGU that is ready for a complete rebuild and will be put into the Celica.
A question for all you people who have completed this mod, especially for those in QLD, have you come across any problems registering and getting your car approved? Did you need to get it engineered at all?
I've done a fair bit of searching through these forums about the conversion, and I've seen mixed responses of no engineering required, to inspections needed if above a 15% power increase, etc. Due to the nature of these forums, many of these posts were from people outside of Queensland, and the rules vary. I would just like to see what experiences any Queenslanders when doing this "conversion".
Cheers,
Ryan

Sure does, its just some posts I have read talk about needing engineering with a more than 15% power increase, etc. I would assume that there wouldn't be too many problems as it is still based on an 18R, and was also available in the GT Celicas (though not offically released in Australia,) but you never know with these people. Still, just interested to know if anyone has come across any problems with this conversion in QLD.

Unless you did some modification to mounts or the like, you wont be needing any engineering. Just give the RTA the new engine numbers.

All you'll need is a blue plate. That what I did when I registered my RA23 with 18R-GEU.

When i had my ra23 with the 18rgu in it i needed no mod plates or anything..They just redgistered it...also i think MR dohc has a 18rgu in his rt104 that had a 18r and he has no mod plate either...but some other people have them...Im sure if you just take it for a roadworthy and tell them its a 18r they will just put it through as the engine number starts with 18r anyway...goodluck..

indeed i didnt need one
i saw the mod book for myself and it said the 2000cc DOHC 18r was legal with no mods, but remember the RT104 came with and 18RG in japan and has all the mountings for the linkages on the firewall
did the JDM RA23 have an 18RG

technically, a GUE - with fuel injection - was not available to Oz celicas when the RA23 was being imported?
so in theory it should require a mod [blue] plate (issued with engineers certificate) as the induction system was not available for this car in Oz.
but first, i think you should simply ask the dude (or dudette - there's a few) who will provide you with a safety certificate about this first - they may not want to see a mod plate for this relatively simple mod.

i think that any mod plate requried for this scenario would only for the change in induction system (e.g. efi not carbi as designated by factory)
i kept thinking everyone was contracting the GUE designation to GU.. sorry.
