80s soarer questions Mon, 26 April 2004 05:15 Go to next message
hey guys im new so be nice Very Happy currently i hav an 88 astra which is my first car and next yr i want to spend about 8-9500 on another car, i was thinking of an 80s twin turbo 1g-gte or 7m-gte soarer as i absolutely love soarers but its going to be just used for cruising on weekends, to work, etc and just gonna do light mods to it like zorst, filters mags etc till i hav can afford an rx7 or sumthing. Sorry to giv u my life story Laughing but to get to the point would this be a good car for what i want to do?, im 17 now and id be on my green ps then but im just asking what these old soarers r like performance, price wise etc. i assume that theyre in my price range and are relatively easy to get but no doubt u guys wil tell me otherwise. Id also liek to hear from anyone who knos anyone with em or has them for experiences with owning them, thanks guys

7m gte 88 or so gt soarer would be your best bang for buck, dont go the 1g gte as they are too heavy to make the engine any good.
Problem is most of them have auto transmissions, but still.. ive been in one and it still flew...
they are like 1500kg and make 179kw at the flywheel stock or something close to that.
or u could do something stupid like me and waste all ya money on an 84 soarer with a 1jz

i got a mz20 4/90 built.. one of the last.. literally.
there great cars.. but i got a blown headgasket.. pain in the ass!!!! 7m gte is very prone to this.. its got a replacement.. original engine in it . so that means the original gasket has gone! im looking at getting it done.. anyone have any idea of price?? from a workshop , im no mechanic!!

but.. if ur seriously thinking of getting one.. great one im so happy with mine aye.. it looks a million bucks and its close to stock except for a 3 in turbo back system i got for it.

they handle so well for such a big car.. and if u run into hsv's n shit.. they jus wave goodbye to them! Laughing Very Happy

if your looking for performance.. dont even touch the 1g ones.. they are too heavy for an engine that size

i got a bhg on mine.. but its not like its gonna cost tons of $$$$$$$$$$$$.. but if u can find one thats had a metal gasket and ideally new head bolts ( ARP Smiley = ) and tourqed to like 75 ibs... your onto a winner!!
i was sitting in mine this morning.. coz i cant drive it.. and i just get the impression of build quality is just so good amd the design.. apart from the head gasket problem is just amazing .. its one of those cars.. u could look it from any angle and it looks.. $$$$$ Very Happy
