Mine did exactly the same thing. Bought my new HKS metal gaket from Penrith Toyota for $320 i think

the total repair cost me around $1000 with pulling it all apart, gaskets, o-rings etc

Private msg me if you'd like specific details

mine was built in 90 as well... my interior leaves a little to be desired, cracked leather etc but otherwise its not too bad, pretty quick for a boat Smiley =

Seriously i'd have a read through the forums just searching on the word "7mgte" you'll probably find a lot of info that way

i can give you a guide on price/ intstructions on how to fix it if youd like. Im in brisbane, and just fully rebuilt my 7MGE from crank up.
All up incl genuine vrs kit it wouldve cost about 1300. BUT, if your head is absolutely bent and corroded to the shithouse like mine was, it cost me an extra $1000 to have a brand spanker fully rebuilt.

provided you run it on coolant, not water and havent cooked it numerous times, you should be right. This is something you definetly need to find out.
Will work out the costs and crap of mine today....but i rebuilt mine completely..id suggest you do the same depending on its km?

when you get it done, the workshop will (or should) check the head, and they'll tell you if it needs to be taken to a machinist

dude, dont run it at all with a bhg, you'll cause more problems than it already has.

If you want to use a metal head gasket...tell the workshop make sure that both the block and the head are perfectly flat (get them tested, the block is usually good, but the head may be out) and *get the block o-ringed as well* otherwise the metal head gasket will be near useless (at least in regards to sealing)

incorrect

0-ringing is ONLY used for copper head gaskets, NOT the HKS/TRD etc laminated metal head gaskets.

head and block MUST be machined for use with said head gaskets (regardless of whether its warped or not) in order to get a perfect surface finish and final seal.

also, always use Hylomar *spray* when installing

better still, save my typing, and click here:

you dont "NEED" a metal gasket at all. ONly if you're gonna go and hot up the car. A genuine toyota copper one is just as good/ better for everyday use. Lot less stuffing around too.

You have to take the block out and take it to a shop to machine it. ARP studs can be found - just ask a few performance shops around town.

no you dont need to o ring it. You need to make sure all surfaces are perfect and to use hylomar spray. 7m's had an issue with dents in the block from corrosion/ bhgs/ overheating.
My block was actually bent on the surface! Had to have 9 tho taken off it to make it flat!

BELIEVE THIS:
DO IT PROPERLY AND SPEND $2000 IF NEEDED OTHERWISE EXPECT IT TO BLOW IN ANOTHER 6 MONTHS IF YOU'RE LUCKY

make SURE they do it to 72-75, as any normal workshop would go off toyota specs. 58 ft-lbs.

Mine is non-turbo..so go figure the problems you can encounter.
The suface was not straight was what i meant by bent.
Mine was obviously used so hot, one piston actually grabbed and scrathed the bore in no 6. I bought it like this, hence i got the car cheap.
If you want pics, someone will have to host it here for me.

Previous owner of my car got a workshop todo the BHG, didnt even pull the exhaust manifold of just plonked it back together, with new gasket and arp studs... didnt last long!

in the process thay fucked:
tems cover, firewall, injector o-rings, stacked 6copper washers on fuel feed bango bolt, strped oil feed/return pipe mounting stud on turbo (fitted) a imperial nut on a metric stud! and a few other things i cant remember anymore...

Ke ?

Are you saying "don't forget to put the washers on the studs", or "Don't put the washers on the studs" ? Confused
