Help Needed No. 3 Timing Cover Cracked

This should be my final stupid question for now !
How do you fix a timing chain cover that has a crack / hole in it ? (Long story but frustration and throwing tools in confined spaces are the ingredients in this recipe.....)
It is big enough to let oil splash out.
Do you weld this thing or use some sort of semi-metal finish putty ? Suggestions please for this mechanical goombah ...!
Thanks,
Mitch.

if it is alloy, TIG weld would be most permanent, but the thin castings, and lower melting point of the cast alloy smight make it a bit tricky... find a 'good' welder, or find a replacement cover
if you were to use metal putty stuff, i'd only use on the outside.. wouldn't want it coming off inside the motor!! if it's not too hard to remove from the motor later, give some of that stuff (is it JB weld??) a go, if it leaks, then fix properly....

(wow, i'm full of ideas tonight.. i must be avoiding something )

Devcon it. I have used devcon for cracked fuel rails and a punctured bottom end on a 70hp outboard motor, none of these fixes has leaked to date and the outboard has been going for 5 yrs since I repaired it..

if its got oil into the cracks forget about welding it unles you take it to a specialist alloy shop, without proper cleaning the oil prevents the alloy fusing together and you end up chasing the crack half way around the job.
ive f**ked a couple of things like that i just put it down to experience
from what ive heard devcon is the best gear for the job. its used by the RAAF it must be good!!!
