What sort of work do you want done? There are shops that specialise in dyno and others forced induction and others ... well .. other stuff.
Visit as many as you can, talk to the people there and get some quotes. Also, don't be afraid of your gut feelings - if someone feels dodgey - don't go there.
Some specialise in all things Nissan. And some don't consider anything pre-1992 as 'performace'. I spoke to one nameless workshop about 7MGTE re-building and was met with yawns and disinterest.
Cypher Industries in O'Conner have a good knowledge of ealy Toyotas - most Saturdays the carpark looks more like the local Sprinter club. Probably a good place to start.

yer cypher seems good, but damn you pay for it. i was thinking more along the lines of general mechanical work, someone that is familiar with the mz soarer, or even very good with the mk3 supra. also anyone know people that are good with air suspension?

General maintainance type stuff?
You can't beat a Toyota Service Repair Manual coupled with the Haynes' Supra manual, a few basic tools, plenty of time and a bit of sweet and swearing
If that's not for you, there's a machanic somewhere in Morley that does a lot of work on Toyota M series engines. The previous owner of my car (ex-5ME) had a lot of work done there and reckoned they were good. Judging by the receipts he showed me, they know there stuff - but seemed to 'pad' out the work a bit.
Hell, it wasn't *that* long ago that the local Yota dealers were selling 7M'ed cars - maybe a Toyota service centre?

Seriously, you should be able to find a general mechanic who won't be phased by it's import status, look for a good one, take their advice, and stick with him, or her!

Or you could try Dave Newton at Honda Recyclers in Maddington. Don't let the name fool you, he used to work at Just Toyota and still drives a MA45 Celica and is doing various Toyota engine conversions. He would know about 7M's and Soarer's for sure.

I'd recommend Speedworks in Osborne Park (4a Carbon Court). They have built some quick 4age's and stuff like that and are generally very good.
Best of luck,
