Quad Ignitors and Coils Wed, 28 April 2004 01:50 Go to next message
Right
For my 4A sprinter setup i have been considerign using quad coils in a directfire sort of setup with a GZE CAS.
I already have two Bosch HEC716s which seem pretty suitable for the job, but if i am to fire all 4 of these in order do i need 4 corresponding ignitors, or do Bosch make paired ignitors which can fire two each?. Or for that matter shoudl i be using the MTR03 ignitor which i already have in a quad arrangement?

Opinions, ideas?

I use 2 x the M&W 3 way ignitors, works good and allows decent dwell time at all rpm.

Bosch BIM 200 (can't remember the exact part #) as found in the Porsche 933, we run this and EVO coils on our cars and they work well in a wasted spark setup, or if you want to run direct fire with one module, I Know they also sell a quad module too... I just can't find my bloody cataelog

Yeah, i have a single BIM unit, but ive been quoted about $180 for each further piece. Which sucks hardcore.
Plus my Microtech might not be programmable to use coilpacks and i might be stuck with dizzy Sad

We shall have to see.
Another likely option ive heard is using the AE92 ignitors with the HEC716 coil packs. Which is viable for me as i have 3 AE92 ignitors already.

Ack, ignitors piss me off seriously, having to pay a coupla hundred bucks for a lousy transistor just ain't right!

Guess that's why I'm a tightarse and generally use wrecker ignitors Evil or Very Mad A Nissan multi-ignitor might be suitable for what you want, if you want a compact little box, otherwise go hardcore and stick 4 008s on a big arse heatsink, and make a visual feature of it Shocked

I so agree on the huge overpricing of the ignitors. But currently its all depending on whether my Microtech is reprogrammable to coilpacks rather than dizzy.
