you will need a fill pump that goes to the surge tank from the carby fuel tank... I recently saw some low pressure carby electric pumps for around $90, this may be suitable...(?)
Or you could mod your tank with an intank pump and baffle...
I have a 180sx turbo fuel pump for intank if you want it ($60)... would flow enough for a 4ag i think

Get a small electronic fuel pump, put it just above your diff. this pumps from the tank to the surge tank. after the surge tank have a small in line filter, then your vl pump, then to the engine. The hardest part in setting up your system is working out feed and return lines from the surge tank back to the main tank. if you also do a search theres heaps of info on this topic

get a low volume pump from an mazda fb-rx7 or 626.. or something similar.. and as 4a-c said, don't forget the efi filter.
fwiw, i think you should just do an intank setup.. i get too many raised eyebrows having mine set up in the engine bay, and there isn't much room under the car.
this is what my setup looks like:

Dont know exactly sorry, You would need somone to weld in a bracket in the tank that would hold a baffle and the pump. The top of the pump protrudes from the tank. The up side of this is you dont have to worry about externally mounting all this stuff, which I did and probably wouldnt next time. It would cost around $150-$200 to get the tank modified (although I didnt get any quotes on this...
go here to have a look at the pump:

I went internal.
You'll need a vn commodore tank with the efi pump, take it and the carby sprinter tank to a metal fabrication shop and ask/get them the remove guts of one and place into the other, simple really, and it only cost me around the $275 mark.
No possibility of smells, no unnecessary efi lines, safer cleaner.
You will need to upgrade all rubber fuel hoses to efi grade hose. The standard stuff wont last long.

The mechaical fuel pump is attached to the side of your 4ac... The carby tank does not contain any pump at all...

Out of curiosity what do you intend to use.
Im probably going with a surge tank in the spare tyre well (if i can figure out a way of venting the well and sealing it off from the cabin) with a low pressure fill pump feeding this, and then a high pressure pump running to the engine.

hey mate, im going to run a 4age(for the time being) in tank pump to the surge tank then the vl turbo pump to the motor...if that fails probably build a crazy fuel tank myself with twin in tank bosch pumps and baffles into the surge tank then the vl turbo to the motor...
cheers mate

i have seen ppl use a battery box and put the setup in that and then seal it so no smell goes in the cabin, worked nicely
im putting a facet low pressure pump near the tank and then a surgy in the engine bay behind the drivers side headlight and then a vl pump in the line between surgy and fuel rail
the washer bottle and over flow tank get in the way so i have got a rolla tank with bracket that go next to the battery with a vr commodore over flow line as it has the 180 degree bend right after the cap so i can put it on the other side and then i have a cressida washer bottle up on the shock tower
should work nicely
i heard facet pumps pump enought to supply a V8 and vl pumps supply a 6 and the vl has the same pressure regulator releif pressure as a 4age so it should hold up ok
