86kw + 100kw ... which ECU? Thu, 29 April 2004 12:18 Go to next message

I am thinking of building a engine with 86kw head and 100kw block.

I think I will use the 100kw injectors as they are bigger.

And I think I will also utilise the TVIS.

Any thoughts on which ECU I should use?

is it better to use the 86kw ECU with the 86kw injectors?
or can I use 100kw ECU with the bigger injectors?

anything else to consider?

*putting another slightly better set of cams into the 100kw.
*and port the head much larger than stock.

As far as I know, 100kw didn't come with TVIS (could be wrong - mine doesn't anyway) so the 100kw ECU won't know what TVIS is and you'll have little butterflies blocking your inlet tracts - therefore you'll have to use the 86kw ECU. I thought I saw a thread recently somewhere that said the two ECUs fire the injectors differently as well.

ok, what i mean was, use the 100kw on this application using the 100kw injectors on a 86kw head.
And also I am not utilising the TVIS with the 100kw ECU, but with some other device, so that when it revs to a certain point, it will open up the little butterflies.

here i have got another question.

i believe the 100kw coil, ignitor, and distributor is different of the ones in 86kw.
since i am using the 100kw ECU, i will be also using all these off the 100kw, will i be able to fit a 100kw distributor into a 86kw head?

mate just use the bigport head on the 100kw and use the 100kw manifolds. dont bother with the tvis cause then you can just use the 100kw computer with no trouble.
not sure on the distributor but im pretty sure it will fit the bigport head.
