New guy with ST162 Celica Fri, 30 April 2004 02:03 Go to next message
Hey all,

Just joined up, thought I'd introduce myself, say hi and show some pics of my Celica. Those of you also on celica.net will already know me, I notice there's quite a few of us here!

My name is Matt, I am a mechanical engineer and I live on the Gold Coast. My car is a 1986 Celica SX that I purchased from the original lady owner last June. I don't really plan on too many mods, so far I have installed a stereo and fitted 15" rims from the latest model Celica.

Looking forward to chatting with y'all, hope to meet any Gold Coast/SE QLD members in future! (Any Sat nite Broadwater carpark regulars here?)

Cheers,
Matt

The rims are from a current model (7th gen) Celica SX, any year from 2000 onwards. Mine were off a 2003 model, according to the guy I bought them from. They were advertised in the trading post for $240 for the set (without tyres).

Well as for mods I guess all FWD Celica owners dream of a 3SGTE swap (including myself), but if I was going to do that I'd rather just go and buy an ST165 GT Four instead. And I do want to lower it someday and replace the suspension with something decent. And tint the windows. Of course all these things are money-permitting, and I don't have too much of that right now......

Yeah I could tell when I went outside and had a look at the latest gen celica (ZZ?) that they were one and the same. Are they the same offset mags as ye old celica or not sure?

Re: New guy with ST162 Celica Mon, 03 May 2004 23:58 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Yeah FWDboy the rims have the exact same offset as the originals, 39mm. (God bless Toyota for keeping the bolt pattern and offset the same from gen 4 thru to gen 7!) The original rims were 14x6 (with 195/60 tyres), and these are 15x7, and I have fitted 205/55's to them. So because the offset is the same, that just means that the tyres have "grown" half an inch in each direction, inwards and outwards.

They do rub on the guards a little bit when cornering hard but I'll roll the guards soon and that should take care of it.

And yeah Scotty I guess it was only a matter of time before I discovered these forums eh? Laughing

I'm not really putting the car down, I mean, hey the ST162 is pretty sweet Smile It's more like I'm putting myself down for not putting the thing back together and/or putting some money into it!!! Now I've got this crazy idea to put my TA-23 3T/2T-GEU project into motion, of course I'm going to force myself to do it *after* I get my ST162 in good nick.

I'm hoping to get some 15x6 mags for my ST162 when I've got a bit o' spare cash.

if you get the chance, you should come down to the cruise/get together were holding this saturday.. starting at Mudgeeraba Hungry Jacks, off the M1; going up to Hinze Dam, then Tamborine Mtn. As far as I know, it starts at around 10am; which is liable to change. **Check out the thread in the Queensland forums for more details, and I hope to see you there! Smile Welcome to Toymods.

Cheers

Hope to see you at a cruise soon Smile
