Sure is, and I'd love to buy it, but insurance company would go absolutely ape if I did the conversion. I'm trying to stick to twins so at least it looks somewhat factory.

was there a use of ur post celicamad?
comments like that should may be kept to urself?
i seriosuly dont see a problem with having full boost by about 5000rpm.... long as u have a stand alone ecu u can bump the rev limit to 8000 and some tuffer valve springs and ur laffing.... and the amount of power that thing would make at full go would be unreal

We all love our Toyotas, thats why we are here. I love my good old 7M (even with crappy gasket). Lag is a term used in the eye of the beholder. Its not for everyone. But hey HKS and GREDDY has made alot of money form it!! so it cant be all that bad. remember that it was worth buying before it became secondhand.

Naa, if I remember correctly, this was bought in Japan through the Yahoo auctions.... If this is the same kit that is.... I have photos of the other kit somewhere.
If this is or is not the same kit I saw for sale, I turned it down for months. I dont like rebuilding turbos.

celicamad wrote on Mon, 10 May 2004 23:04 | actually considering that this kit is famous for lag .
and an off the shelf gt 3040 with similar power output costs $2200 new a custom manifold for $1,000 and a wastegate you could pick up for $300 second hand ( might not be hks but will still work )4200 for lines etc thats $3700
by the time you spend $900+ on the turbo you have a $2800 second hand turbo kit .
so its only $900 cheaper than new . and with a new kit you have a choice of 1.12,0.82 or even 0.68(i think) rear housings
plus you can order different compressor sizes .
or simply order a gcg proven kit that makes the power about 500 rpm sooner
This hks kit has come under some rather severe critisism from turbo magazines and owners of the same kit alike .like many jap kits its the brand name that sells
a simple no thanks would have been o.k offer withdrawn

This isnt a normal GT Turbo, this isnt a custom manifold, and this isnt a no name wastegate.
It is all HKS. I personally think this kit is worth every cent that wastegate is asking. Genuine HKS manifold. Genuine HKS GT turbo Genuine HKS Wastegate.
That HKS wastegate brand new is worth minumum $1200 from HKS
That HKS Manifold brand new is worth minimum $1800 from HKS
That HKS GT3040 brand new is worth minimum $3000 from HKS
My calculations suggest this kit is worth $6000 if it was brand new, so the value represented here if it is being sold for $1800 (plus an extra 900 for rebuild) is pretty damn good.

Ok, realistically, are there any issues in running this turbo as it is ? I have seen turbos like this running on cars before, with bigger chips, and on more than just one fin. I think that If i bought this for my 1JZ, I'd just run it as is.... maybe......

if i bought it... which i maybe considering in a week or so... im just ganna pull the exhaust housing of and the compressor housing and just get the turbo balanced.....
i serisouly dont think that that chip in the wheel is ganna affect power at all

it wouldnt affect power, but it might possibly affect the balance. Thats why getting it balancd should be good for it.
